British Columbia is beginning a phased plan to slowly reopen, with businesses and services following new operating methods since the arrival of COVID-19.
This reopening is possible because the instructions of Dr. Bonnie Henry have been followed, including physical distancing, hand washing, and staying at home as much as possible. It is important that we continue to follow these preventative measures and go through the reopening steps cautiously and safely.
Over the coming weeks and months, we will slowly increase in-person visits at Shoreline locations. We will start with one half day, per physician, per week. We will restore more of the routine healthcare that was suspended, such as routine screening, when it is recommended by the authorities. This graduated plan is dependent upon the risk of COVID-19 remaining low.
We are currently working hard to develop our Worksafe BC COVID-19 safety plan to ensure our clinics are ready to safely receive patients, and that our staff is properly trained. Moving forward, we will continue to initially see patients virtually, via video, or on the telephone. Any in-office/in-person visits will be at the physician’s discretion and will be discussed with you during your telehealth visit. If you are asked to come to the clinic for an in-office visit, we ask that you bring your own mask.
The reasons we cannot see everyone in-person include the following:
- We have to continue reducing the risk of COVID-19 in our offices through physical distancing. This reduces the number of people we can safely accommodate in our office at any time.
- The regional Health Authorities require us to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) during all in-person encounters. As PPE (masks and eye protection) remains in short supply worldwide, we have to be economical with its usage.
- The requirement to sanitize our exam rooms more frequently and thoroughly reduces the number of people we can see daily in our clinic.
Please continue to use Health Myself to book your online appointments as our call volumes still remain high. You can book online by logging into Health Myself if you are already registered or by clicking here for Brentwood patients or here for Sidney patients. Please book a video appointment whenever possible, as our physicians feel that it offers a better opportunity for thorough assessment.
We want to reassure you that safe care will continue to be provided, and that you will be seen in person when it is deemed necessary. Over time we anticipate seeing more patients in person as long as COVID-19 cases do not increase.
Stay healthy! Your Shoreline Team.
